PERSONALIZED & COMPASSIONATE THERAPIES TO HELP OVERCOME LIFE’S STRUGGLES
Some things don't get better just because time passed. The memory still tightens your chest. The same argument keeps happening. You're managing — and you're tired of managing.
I'm Kristen Burrus, a licensed therapist in Overland Park, and this is the work: trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, self-esteem.
Not fixing you. Helping you get your footing back.
A Higher Self-Worth & Newfound Confidence Starts Right Here
Trauma doesn't stay in the past tense. It shows up in your sleep, in how you read a room, in the way you brace before a hard conversation — often before you've consciously remembered anything at all.
The same is true of what travels with it: the anxiety, the depression, the drinking or using, the self-esteem that got quietly dismantled somewhere along the way.
Some of this is processing what happened to you. Some of it is building skills nobody ever handed you. We'll do both, in whatever order you can manage — steadiness first, then the harder material.

Real Change Starts With You – Personal Empowerment: Explained
Personal empowerment is a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth that allows individuals to realize their full potential and take control of their lives. It involves recognizing one's strengths, values, and abilities while also acknowledging areas for improvement and growth. Through personal empowerment, individuals cultivate a strong sense of self-worth, confidence, and resilience, enabling them to overcome challenges and obstacles with courage and determination. This process often involves setting meaningful goals, developing healthy boundaries, practicing self-care, and fostering positive relationships. By embracing personal empowerment, individuals can create a life that aligns with their authentic selves, leading to greater fulfillment, happiness, and a deep sense of purpose.
The tools I use in session — yours to keep.
Written down so you can stay with them on your own: emotional regulation, boundaries, anger, and a next right step for the days that don't have one. Clients use them to keep the work going between appointments.
Not in Kansas or Missouri? I can't be your therapist there, but the workbooks travel anywhere. Start with one, and if you'd like support working through it, get in touch about coaching — I take a small number of coaching clients, separate from my therapy practice.
If you're ready to stop managing it alone, call 913-388-5490 and we'll find a time to talk.
